Berlevåg Men’s Chorus

Berlevåg Men’s Chorus was founded in 1917.  During the past 84 years the chorus has been an active part of Berlevåg’s cultural life.

The chorus gained national acclaim and popularity through their participation in the documentary film “Heftig & Begeistret” (“Cool & Crazy”).  Released in January 2001, this passionate, hilarious and sometimes majestic portrait of singing and survival has become a fixture in the country's cinemas, and has come close to breaking all box office records.  Several commentators have described the film as the Arctic version of “Buena Vista Social Club”.

The chorus has performed in several nationwide TV shows and has been “on the road” almost constantly since May 2001.  Late September the chorus is scheduled to visit the USA.

The oldest member of the chorus is Einar Strand (96).  He joined in 1926.

The Guardian:  “Why should anyone want to see a film about a choir from a Norwegian fishing village? Simple: Cool and Crazy is the best movie about music since Buena Vista Social Club”.
